Information Media -260

Technology has developed so fast that the software that i used last year has been changed to new one and the whole university is updating to windows7.So it was really important to learn how to be updated, so i took this class and it was really informative abd useful for me in the future educational purposes.Everything i learned from IM-260 was helpful though it was summer class and have 11 days class period but Jennifer covered a lot and helped a lot in building the technology updated.There were serious matters of security in the face book and i was abl to resolve it through this class and i came to learn various web 2.0 sites that are really useful.The most important part of this class was web developing and creating teh web page. I really learned a lot about web pages and using the dream weaver software.Even though i had some ideas on photoshop but i was unfamilar to dreamweaver.During the course i was able to use both CS4 and CS3 webs and find some differences that they donot support each other.Still i have some problems in fixing the size of the web page i will find it how to make them constant in everyformat. The other thing i liked about this class is the active participation from all and the teacher. I used to thought four hours classes will be boring and sleepy but i was really exciting about this class and tell my friends to take this class. In addition i learned how to make social resume and do social networking which is one of the great achievement of this class.To sum up IM 260 was really helpful and technology updated.

Response to the peer teaching 2...

Today, second last day of the class was fun as we learned about google sites, voki and slide rocket. Talking about the google sites, google has broad search engine that is really helpful in case of further use.Google sites helps in developing some web2.0 pages like dream weaver but not professional.This is helpful in developing small webpages. Voki was the fun dealing with different sound effects and the different faces that anyone can make in the webpage. It might be useful in making the sound effects and post them in the personal webpages.I think everyone in the class found voki interesting than the yahoo pipes that me and my friend shaurav presented. Though the topic sounds interesting but we have to dig a lot to collect information and operate them to make the proper yahoo pipes.About sliderocket, i found it useful in my summer classes that i am going to take in the july.It was the option for powerpoint and i found different stuffs that powerpoint doesot support such as group meeting and 3-D Animation.I hope this web will be really helpful for me in future use to present in my class. I found every group members prepared and helpful during the lab classes.Taking this class is really helpful for me in future classes for using the technology.

Response to the peer teaching

Peer teaching was really exciting and i learned some important tools that might be useful in future use such as google doc. and zoho.I found google Docs really useful as i could make important group presentation and share with members of my group so they will be able to read and edit the presentation.In this way if one member could not appear in the meeting then they will be able to learn what we worked on and what were our plannings for the projects.Moreover google Docs was helpful in sharing important documents to the family members by inviting them to google Docs.Similarly Zoho was helpful is making spreadsheets for the maths classes and the management classes. I found Zoho more advanced than google Docs. as they have more features and really easy to operate. For my future use i am going to use the Zoho.About EfolioMinnesota i found some confusion and hard to operate. I think this web will be also useful for the professional life in making the data base regarding the education and the experiences that might be useful in finding jobs. As we know social networking is important, Efolio will really helps in making networks and findings jobs.In Addition i found all the group members were really prepared and well managed and i had thought each group will teach for an hour but it was short and sweet.During the lab time each groups helps around the class which was really impressive and cooperative. From today's class i got more confidence and learned how to present to the class for my peer teaching tomorrow.

Photoshop and Dreamweaver Workshop :

Last week was really interesting and informative regarding the use of different software such as Dreamweaver and Photoshop. I had a dream that I will make my own website one day and publish it. Two weeks before I had applied for the lab consultant position at SCSU library for the fall semester and they asked me if I had created any websites but I was unable to provide my link, so now I am happy that I can give them my web link .Besides the happiness there were difficulties regarding the management in creating the website. The main portion that I found very hard was to fill the content and put white space in between. Though I am still on my way building the website but I learned different features about Dreamweaver in the class as well as through YouTube tutorials. Playing around with photo shop was really fun as I learned how to optimize the images and locate them in the Dreamweaver. I am still learning about the different aspects of Photoshop through the link that Prof. Quinlan had provided but confused about audio editing because I could not download the software at my home computer and I was wondering if I was able to edit the songs and different sounds from other people too. Developing my own video was really helpful in making my website as I was able to create the cultural video of my country through http:// animoto.com. There were some difficulties in creating the video through jay cut and photo peach as I could not save the videos on my web. Using the codes in Dreamweaver was hard but it was fun, similar to writing the programming language in computer science and furthermore I was able to find some codes from different Web Pages so I can add them to my code page and animate the videos and photographs on my web page. Choosing the perfect background color and using the right palette or accent colors was really important as they provide the transparency in the web pages. Consequently last week was truly meaningful and instructive to create my web page.

All about the Minute Details and Creativity :

During the two day period I was really thinking about the goal of taking this class. I feel myself far behind the creativity, though I was little familiar with the web creation and designing. I found web creation using the codes was really boring and confusing even they are similar to program writing in my computer science class. Playing around with Dream weaver software was a fun on very first day because I was really excited to create my first web page but after wards I came to the point of perfection which is the ultimate goal of this class. To create perfect web page, minute thinking and creativity was really needed. During the procedure I was confused about the managing task within the websites such as saving documents in web folder, choosing the perfect picture and the color. I had some ideas about Photo shop which provides me some console in designing and choosing the perfect color. The main thing that strikes on my mind was the inadequacy of the creativity so I tried to research some ideas in web creation and how to build really good web site. I hope there are ample things that I can do to make my web page looks really of good standard. In the meantime I am focusing on the web material that I can put and manage them properly. Choosing the perfect picture according to the topic and setting their scale was really necessary so I am focusing on that part too. If I give more efforts on the minute details from every angle then I could make perfect web page that I was playing around for two days.

Considerations in Web Designing

When people starts researching they collect lots of information and have bunch of ideas going through their mind, but it is really important to make the work simple and understandable. After reading Lachlan Bailey’s article on minimalist principle on web design I think there are lots of minute things we should consider before publishing the web page. Her examples were really pragmatic and among them I choose Laboixeta which is a perfect example of minimal principle. According the Bailey, “every detail counts” which is true because perfection is really necessary in different issues of choosing colors, fonts, trends, and using the grids. Laboixeta, a handmade leather web page was really impressive in choosing the fonts and typography. Use of basic fonts and less use of typography has made this web page attractive and easy to understand. Choosing the perfect color adds the significance in the web design and use of right palette or accent colors is important. Laboixeta choose the gray trend to create the background and muted colors combined with gray make the web page really impressive and transparent. The photographs used in this web have same pixels and has perfect transparency on it. There are lots of spacing in the web and information’s are put in the boxes separating from each other which makes viewer easy and understandable. They have used the square boxes instead of the circle, which is an element of minimal principle. After viewing this web page there are some aspects that really strikes in my mind such as simplicity, transparency, use of colors, grids that are the things to be considered in developing the web design.

Step towards Web Designing

After reading Vitaly Friedman and Jennifer Kyrnin articles, I was concerned on some of the steps that should be considered and give importance before publishing. Though it seems easier to write on the web but the organization is the important part. Friedman’s importance towards simplicity and users attraction towards the web was really meaningful. If the website is too hard to understand nobody will see it again and furthermore the e effective writing has its own importance in web writing. Web page is the reflection of the creator and his work so it should be of some standard. Visible language is another feature in creating the website which makes the web simpler, clear and distinctive. Jennifer’s steps towards the web design were really vast and appropriate. I will really consider some of her steps in creating my web, such as using fonts, colors, layouts and graphics. Learning HTML and CSS files were exciting too as they could be useful in web designing. Though I know about JPG and GIF files but proper use of them were really important in graphics. It was really important to choose the software to create the web page which may costs lot of money but free trail software could be used. Dreamweaver is an important tool in web designing professionally for the windows and Macintosh .Hence by reading these articles i am choosing dreamweaver software to create my web page and follow some steps that are really important.

Experiencing Technology for a week

It was really exciting and evocative to learn web 2.0 last week. I discover various new webs that could be useful for me in my Academic life. Blog posting, library database and Refworks are really useful in researching and social networking. I enjoyed online photo sharing and editing through Flickr and Picknik. These webs were not familiar to me so I found this class really fruitful and informative. Privacy is the big issue in web technology that the web developers are always concerned with. I also learned about the privacy settings in different webs such as face book, Twitter, blogger and various bookmarking webs. Lots of people are unaware about the social networking and social resume. This class was really meaningful not only for me but also for my friend who is graduating next semester. I share him the potential of social resume and the visual CV in achieving the jobs in the present situation of economic downturn. I found my professor really insightful so the class is not boring and full of excitements to learn the new technology. As the class size was really small it was truly interactive and productive in the manner of learning new things. Setting my own blog account was really useful for me in publishing my experiences and the new ideas that I learn from the new researches carry out by the physics and Astronomy department. Getting used with Refwork was productive for me to locate my articles and citation as well as creating the bibliography. Though I have some ideas in organizing citation works but from last week I am following the same techniques that I learned in the class. Using the delicious account was also interesting that I do not have to remember all the websites and I could manage through my delicious account.
This is the first intersession class that I am taking and I used to think four hours classes are boring and sleepy but my assumptions were contradicted as I found the class exciting. I always prefer interactive classes rather than the classes having long lectures and tons of assignments. By setting up the different web accounts such as blogger, delicious, twitter, flickr I am looking forward to learn web designing for the next week, which is one of my interest.

Response to Dan Schawbel's articles

After reading Dan Schawbel's articles I feel the significance of social media resume. The present downturn in the job market is really gigantic problem to everyone and the hiring companies are really looking for the outstanding performance and ability. Along with the time the way of presenting oneself is also changing. So social resume is another footstep in new technology which is far better than the traditional way of filing the paper documents. Using visual CV and multimedia are the potential part of Dan’s article but the comments about the visual were really humorous. I also agree with Thon Singer about the privacy of the personnel life by the hiring companies. One thing catches my mind is if anyone wants to create social resume he/she should be really experienced and qualitative. Dan’s secrets about getting the job with social resume were insightful and full of really good tips. It is really important to become little different than the way people doing things traditionally. There are more possibilities of getting jobs if hiring personnel could check the backgrounds online through the social blogs and find the talents and capability. John Mark's comment and his survival tips for the Modern Wage slave on his blog were really impressive. Hence nobody cares about you in the big world, so you should have to present your capabilities and talents by the modern technologies so that the hiring personnel feels you are really need of the society.

Response to the facebook article

When I went through all three articles I was really concerned with the identity protection that I never gave prior importance. Dan Yoder negative thought towards face book drag my attention whether face book is really scoundrel? But later I came to a conclusion that it is informative to me. Face book is a social media that I can make contacts and have their information but the it should be secured. Being an international student it is an easy means of communication to my family as I could uploads my photographs and post my updates. Furthermore I was surprised with some unethical issues on face book by the CEO because I had some matter with identity theft and lots of companies are sending me different stuffs to my address providing my social security number too. I found compare and contrast between Dan Yoder and David Lee King’s article as both of them are focused on the security issues. I feel Dan Yoder trying to illustrate twitter is an option for face book but my experience is not similar to him because twitter is not familiar to everyone in my family as face book do. Ryan Single’s idea of controlling the face book using simple software is admirable but for free competition and quality maintenance it is better to find new option for face book too. To continue my social networking I will still continue using face book account but will be more careful towards my identity protection. At mean time I will find some options for using face book if identity protection will be the serious issue in the future.

Experiences with blog posting

Along with the development in information technology people are trying to make themselves reorganized.Recent developments in technology has astounded the whole world as various business companies are exploring the new system and methodology.In order to learn and understand these new technology I am taking Information media 260 course at SCSU for the summer semester.I still remember a year ago when I don’t know about the blogging and some of my friends were telling me to see their blogs .I was exciting to have one of my own .Today with the help of IM-260 class i am able to create my own blog and post my experience. With this blog I could post my researches and news regarding astronomy and nanotechnology.I am really interested in advancing my knowledge in web page creation.
